The Marshall House

The Marshall home has become an icon over the years.  As history has it, the home was constructed by former Blodgett merchant George Buchanan in the 1890’s but is best remembered for the Marshall Family of BF Marshall II, who purchased the home in the early 1930’s.  Ben F Marshall II was the direct descents of Ben F Marshall I, who was one of the prominent founders of the town of Blodgett.  Marshall Land Co and other Blodgett based businesses thrived while Catherine Marshall of the home raised children and grandchildren and kept up with an unselfish social life which included leading in the countless endeavors of the Blodgett Women’s Club to help the needy and raise money for the upkeep of the Blodgett Cemetery.  Ida Katherine “Kit” Marshall is still remembered as a kind humanitarian to all in the Blodgett Community.  When Ben F Marshall III died in 2008, Blodgett businessman David Russell purchased the home from Judge Frank Marshall for its historical value. Mr. Russell restored the home's interior to complement its original state of construction.

Now, Mayor David Russell and town board have recently been faced with the responsibility for the care and maintenance of the Blodgett Cemetery that was originally solely maintained by the Blodgett Women’s Club with their fundraisers and their cultivated donations from the surrounding community.  So the Mayor has stated in the interim what a better stage to reactivate the needed endeavors of the Blodgett Women’s Club and the new Blodgett Cemetery Board then the Victorian sitting room of the old Marshall home to hold meetings for fundraisers and cemetery business.
